Indonesia facilitates citizens joining humanitarian flotilla to Gaza
The Indonesian government has confirmed that 30 Indonesian citizens, under the Indonesia Global Peace Convoy (IGPC), will join the Global Sumud Flotilla, a humanitarian mission set to depart from Tunisia to Gaza on September 10, 2025.
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Vahd Nabyl A. Mulachela said the government has been in close communication with IGPC regarding the mission and is providing necessary facilitation through Indonesia’s Embassy in Tunis.
“Through our Embassy in Tunis, the government has extended facilitation during their stay in Tunisia and conveyed an overview of the potential risks they may face when entering the Gaza area,” Vahd said on Sunday, September 7, 2025.
He added that Indonesia’s embassies in Cairo and Rome, which is also accredited to Cyprus, have been instructed to closely monitor the flotilla’s movement.
“The Indonesian government consistently supports the struggle for Palestinian independence in accordance with international law and regulations,” Vahd emphasized.
Indonesian Ambassador to Tunisia, Zuhairi Misrawi, said through his Instagram account @zuhairimisrawi on Sunday that Indonesia’s participation in the voyage demonstrates that the country remains “steadfast in the struggle for Palestinian independence and the lifting of the blockade on Gaza.”
He said this determination is further reflected in the five Indonesian ships joining the Global Sumud Flotilla, which have been named after national heroes: Soekarno, Diponegoro, Hasanuddin, Pati Unus, and Malahayati as reported by Antara.
The Global Sumud Flotilla will deliver critical humanitarian aid to Gaza while also sending a strong message that the world will not remain silent in the face of Israel’s genocide and 18-year blockade against more than two million people in Gaza.
Countries participating in the voyage include Indonesia, Malaysia, the United States, the Netherlands, Brazil, Italy, Colombia, Morocco, Sri Lanka, and Tunisia.
