Indonesia is set to receive its first Pattugliatore Polivalente d’Altura (PPA) frigate, KRI Brawijaya-320, in September 2025, and KRI Siliwangi 321 in January 2026, a senior Indonesian Navy officer confirmed.

The KRI Brawijaya-320 departed Italy on July 29, 2025and is expected to arrive at the Navy’s Second Fleet Command base in Surabaya, East Java on September 10, 2025 after a month-long voyage.

“We hope the new warship will strengthen the Navy’s role in safeguarding Indonesia’s maritime territory,” Second Fleet Commander, Vice Admiral Denih Hendrata, said as quoted by Antara, on July 29, 2025.

Indonesian Navy Chief of Staff Admiral Muhammad Ali said KRI Brawijaya-320 will be stationed under the Second Fleet Command, but with operational reach into the Third Fleet Command, including the waters around Papua.

The second vessel, KRI Prabu Siliwangi-321, will be deployed under the First Fleet Command to secure the western seas, including the South China Sea.

Defense analyst Alman Helvas Ali told Indonesia Business Post that the recent change in Fincantieri’s military ship division leadership with Eugenio Santagata replacing Dario Deste on September 1, 2025 will not affect the delivery timeline.

“There’s no impact. The ship is expected to be delivered in January 2026,” he said, while noting the second frigate’s scheduled arrival.

Santagata, a former Italian Army officer with extensive defense and cybersecurity experience, is expected to play a strategic role in Fincantieri’s future growth. CEO Pierroberto Folgiero praised both Santagata’s expertise and Deste’s long-standing contributions to the company.

Fincantieri is one of the world’s largest shipbuilding groups, active in cruise ship, naval, offshore, and underwater solution industries.

Indonesia signed a contract in March 2024 with Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri for two Thaon di Revel-class PPA frigates. Each ship is 143 meters long, 16.5 meters wide, displaces 6,250 tons fully loaded, and can reach speeds of over 30 knots with a range of 5,000 nautical miles.

They are designed for multi-role missions and four-dimensional warfare, equipped with advanced weapons and systems.
