State-owned oil and gas drilling company PT Pertamina EP is investigating the explosion at the CO2 Removal gas line of the Subang Gathering Station in Cidahu Village, Pagaden Barat Sub-district, Subang regency, West Java at about 4:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 5, 2025.

“The investigation, in coordination with relevant stakeholders, is underway to identify the root cause of the incident and ensure it doesn't happen again in the future,” Pinto Budi Bowo Laksono, Manager of Communication Relations & CID at Pertamina EP, said as quoted by Katadata on Tuesday evening.

“The situation at the site is under control following energy isolation measures through a shutdown of the facility and well shut-in,” he added.

Pertamina confirmed that two workers sustained burn injuries from the incident but remained fully conscious. The victims received initial treatment at Hamori Subang Hospital and were later transferred to a hospital in Jakarta for further medical care.

The fire was extinguished at 6:41 a.m. by the Pertamina EP Subang Field Emergency Response Team. The operation involved shutting down the fire source and implementing mitigation efforts to stabilize the situation. All response efforts were conducted in accordance with Pertamina's Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) protocols.

“Pertamina EP has formed an investigative team to determine the cause of this event and is committed to maintaining a safe and controlled environment at the site,” the company stated in a media release.

Prior to the official statement, videos and reports circulated on social media showing flames erupting from a Pertamina EP oil well in Subang, allegedly following a leak and subsequent explosion.

Eyewitness footage depicted a panicked atmosphere as fire spread to multiple points around the site, with flames shooting high into the sky. Authorities continue to monitor the area as the investigation proceeds.
