Pertamina partners with U.S. energy giants to boost crude, fuel imports
Refining and petrochemical subholding of State energy company Pertamina, PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional, has set up a collaboration with ExxonMobil, Chevron, and KDT Global Resource to explore the possibility of importing crude oil and refined fuel from the United States.
“This is part of the broader initiative to open opportunities for importing crude oil and fuel,” Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Bahlil Lahadalia, said at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday, July 22, 2025.
While he did not disclose the exact volumes involved, he confirmed that the collaboration opens a new path for U.S.-Indonesia energy trade.
Earlier, Pertamina signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with several U.S.-based companies to secure crude oil supply needed for Indonesia’s domestic refineries.
“Pertamina fully supports the government’s policies, including by securing feedstock from our partners in the United States,” Fadjar Djoko Santoso, Pertamina Vice President for Corporate Communication, told a press conference in Jakarta on Wednesday, July 16, 2025.
The move is seen as part of Indonesia’s broader trade strategy to increase energy commodity imports from the U.S. and help balance its trade relations. The energy agreement also follows a revised reciprocal trade deal between the two nations, in which the U.S. reduced tariffs on Indonesian products from 32 percent to 19 percent, as announced by U.S. President Donald J. Trump.
The deal marks a significant step in strengthening bilateral energy cooperation and securing Indonesia’s energy supply chain through diversified import sources.
