Vanda RE seals agreement with CATL to push on Indonesia’s green energy corridor
Vanda RE Pte Ltd, a joint venture between Singapore’s Gurīn Energy Pte Ltd and Gentari International Renewables Pte Ltd, has signed a framework supply agreement with Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL), one of the world’s leading battery technology and energy storage providers.
The agreement secures up to 2.2 gigawatt hours (GWh) of CATL’s EnerX battery energy storage systems (BESS) for the Vanda Solar & Battery Project, a large-scale solar power and storage development located in Riau Islands. The project will feature 2 gigawatt peak (GWp) of installed solar capacity and 4.4 GWh of battery storage, designed to meet Indonesia’s local content requirements (TKDN).
The batteries will be manufactured at CATL’s new factory in Karawang, West Java, which broke ground in late June and is expected to have a total production capacity of 15 GWh. The agreement not only strengthens the project’s supply chain, but also supports Indonesia’s ambition to become a Southeast Asian hub for the battery and renewable energy industries.
This initiative is part of a broader Indonesia–Singapore cooperation to develop a green economic corridor, starting with renewable energy collaboration. By anchoring global clean-tech manufacturers like CATL in Indonesia’s supply chain, projects such as Vanda RE’s are expected to drive investment, reduce domestic renewable energy development costs, and elevate Indonesia’s profile as a strategic destination for green investment.
“Vanda RE is committed to delivering this project to the highest technical and operational standards, which is why we are delighted to have secured top-tier battery technology from CATL,” Enda Ginting, Country Manager Indonesia at Gurīn Energy, said in a statement on Thursday, July 17, 2025.
Earlier this year, Vanda RE also signed a 1 GW framework supply agreement for solar panels and appointed a Lead Technical Consultant, reflecting the project’s steady development progress.
The Vanda Solar & Battery Project aims to serve as a flagship in Indonesia’s renewable energy transition and regional energy cooperation. With a combined solar-plus-storage model, the project is poised to deliver consistent, clean power while catalyzing industrial development around green energy infrastructure in the Riau Islands.
Vanda RE is a joint venture between Gurīn Energy and Gentari dedicated to developing renewable energy projects across Asia. The company is currently advancing a utility-scale solar and BESS facility in Indonesia as part of the green electricity cooperation framework between Indonesia and Singapore.
Gentari provides integrated solutions across renewable energy, hydrogen, and green mobility to enable the global clean energy transition. Its mission is to become the region’s most trusted clean energy partner, supporting industrial decarbonization and advancing net-zero goals across Asia Pacific.
Headquartered in Singapore, Gurīn Energy develops, owns, and operates solar, wind, and battery storage assets across North and Southeast Asia. Its 90-person team is currently developing 8 GW of renewable energy projects across Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, South Korea, and Japan.
