Indonesia’s state investment management body BPI Danantara has expressed interest in forming a strategic partnership with South Korea in media and entertainment industry, aiming to learn from the country's global cultural success and boost international visibility of Indonesian culture.

Speaking at the Korea-Indonesia Economic Partnership Forum in Jakarta on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, Pandu Sjahrir, Chief Investment Officer (CIO) of Danantara, praised South Korea’s ability to globalize its culture despite its relatively small population.

“What’s really interesting is the media industry. South Korea, despite having a small population, has managed to make the Korean language and culture international − through music, through film,” Pandu said.

Danantara plans to study how South Korea developed such a robust and influential entertainment sector and explore investment opportunities in the same field. The goal is to adopt similar strategies that can help amplify Indonesian culture on the global stage.

“I think this is something we want to learn from and invest in. It’s also about how we can use Indonesia’s culture to be more globally recognized,” Pandu cited.

Also speaking at the forum, Park Soo-Deok, Chargé d'Affaires of the South Korean Embassy in Indonesia, welcomed the idea of media cooperation between the two countries.

“I know many Indonesians enjoy Korean dramas and K-pop. So, I think this is a great area for collaboration between Indonesia and Korea, especially given Indonesia’s large media-consuming population,” Park said.

The Korea-Indonesia Economic Partnership Forum is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen bilateral ties and expand economic cooperation across multiple sectors, including technology, energy, manufacturing, and now media and entertainment.
