Government repatriates deceased Indonesian from Cambodia
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Indonesian Embassy in Phnom Penh have facilitated the repatriation of the body of an Indonesian migrant worker, identified as MF, who worked in the online gambling sector in Cambodia.
The body of the deceased arrived at the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at 11:55 am, the foreign ministry said in a statement on Thursday, June 18, 2025.
According to the information obtained by the Indonesian Embassy in Phnom Penh on June 5, 2025, MF died of heart attack, as confirmed by the Poipet Police in Cambodia. Following the notification, the Embassy promptly initiated procedures for the handling and return of the remains to Indonesia.
The repatriation was conducted at the request of the family, and all associated costs were fully covered by the company that employed the deceased. The company also provided financial assistance to the family of the deceased.
A formal handover of the remains to the family was conducted by a representative from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in the presence of relevant authorities, including the Banten Chapter of the Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Agency (BP3MI) and member of the House of Representatives (DPR) Commission IX, Surya Utama.
During the handover, the foreign ministry representative expressed condolences and reiterated the measures taken by the government and the Embassy in Phnom Penh to ensure proper handling and dignified return of MF’s body.
