Indonesia condemns Israel’s attack on Iran, calls for restraint
Indonesia has strongly condemned Israel’s latest attack on Iran, denouncing it as a serious violation of international law that threatens regional peace and stability.
“This unlawful act undermines the very foundations of international law,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Friday, June 13, 2025, via its X account. The ministry warned that the attack risks exacerbating already fragile regional tensions and could potentially trigger a broader conflict in the Middle East.
Indonesia urged all parties to exercise the utmost restraint and to refrain from any actions that could escalate tensions or cause further instability.
“Indonesia reaffirms the obligation of every State to resolve their differences through peaceful means in accordance with international law,” the statement concluded.
In a separate statement, the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Jakarta condemned the attack as a “clear violation of Article 2(4) of the United Nations Charter and a blatant act of aggression” against Iran’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
According to the embassy, the early morning attack on June 13, 2025 targeted multiple locations, including residential areas in Tehran and other Iranian cities, and resulted in the deaths of both civilians and what it described as “some of Iran’s most dedicated and patriotic servants − defenders of dignity, strength, and scientific progress.”
Offering its deepest condolences to the Iranian people, the embassy emphasized Iran’s right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter, stating that the Iranian Armed Forces “will respond with full force at a time and manner deemed appropriate to defend the nation’s honor and sovereignty.”
The statement also called on UN member states − particularly regional countries, Islamic nations, members of the Non-Aligned Movement, and all countries committed to peace and security − to immediately condemn what it described as a “criminal act of aggression” and take urgent collective measures to address this dangerous provocation.
“All dangerous consequences of this wide-ranging aggression by the Zionist regime against our homeland lie squarely with the regime and its supporters,” the embassy declared.
It further urged media outlets, organizations, and social media activists to report responsibly and raise global awareness of what it labeled as the Zionist regime’s military crimes and reckless adventurism.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran will respond appropriately to this barbaric act,” the statement concluded.
As reported by Reuters, Israel launched widescale strikes against Iran on Friday, saying it targeted nuclear facilities, ballistic missile factories and military commanders and that this was start of a prolonged operation to prevent Tehran from building an atomic weapon.
Iranian media and witnesses reported explosions including at the country's main uranium enrichment facility at Natanz, while Israel declared a state of emergency in anticipation of retaliatory missile and drone strikes.
Iran's elite Revolutionary Guards corps said its top commander, Hossein Salami, was killed and state media reported the unit's headquarters in Tehran had been hit. Several children had been killed in a strike on a residential area in the capital, it said.
"We are at a decisive moment in Israel's history," Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a recorded video message.
"Moments ago Israel launched Operation Rising Lion, a targeted military operation to roll back the Iranian threat to Israel's very survival. This operation will continue for as many days as it takes to remove this threat."

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said in a statement that Israel had "unleashed its wicked and bloody" hand in a crime against Iran and that it would receive "a bitter fate for itself".
An Israeli military official said Israel was striking "dozens" of nuclear and military targets including the facility at Natanz in central Iran. The official said Iran had enough material to make 15 nuclear bombs within days.
The United States said it had no part in the operation, which raises the risk of a fresh escalation in tensions in the Middle East, a major oil producing region.
Alongside extensive air strikes, Israel's Mossad spy agency led a series of covert sabotage operations inside Iran, Axios reported, citing a senior Israeli official. These operations were aimed at damaging Iran’s strategic missile sites and its air defence capabilities.
