Tangerang-Binzhou sign sister city agreement on economic, cultural collaboration
The Tangerang Regency Administration in Banten Province has set up partnership with the Government of Binzhou City, Shandong Province, People’s Republic of China, focusing on three key areas of economic development, through a Letter of Intent (LoI) for a "Sister City" agreement.
"We are optimistic that this collaboration with Binzhou, a well-known hub for industry and agriculture in Shandong Province, will bring significant benefits to both sides," Tangerang Regent, Moch Maesyal Rasyid, said in Tangerang on Tuesday, June 10, 2025.
"We believe this partnership will create wide opportunities for knowledge exchange and progress across various strategic sectors," he added.
Tangerang Regency, he noted, is a dynamic region with strengths in manufacturing, trade, agriculture, and human resource development. The collaboration is expected to enhance business opportunities and accelerate development in these areas for both regions.
The agreement outlines three primary areas of cooperation:
● Tourism and Cultural Promotion;
● Creative Economy Development;
● Human Resource Development − regarded as a long-term investment by both parties.
"This partnership is not only expected to elevate the international standing of both regions but also to deliver direct, positive impacts to our communities," Rasyid said.
On the other side, Binzhou Mayor Li Chuntian shared that his city spans 9,600 square kilometers and is home to approximately 4 million residents. Binzhou has a robust economy, particularly in aluminum manufacturing, textiles, and marine agriculture.
He noted that Tangerang Regency is the first international partner from Indonesia to engage in formal cooperation with Binzhou.
"We hope this marks a strong beginning for mutual growth and economic strengthening between our regions," Chuntian said.
Chuntian extended an invitation for the Tangerang Regency Government to conduct a reciprocal visit to Binzhou to further deepen cooperation and explore opportunities in industries, such as education, healthcare, transportation, and infrastructure.
He added that Binzhou currently boasts a 43 km x 43 km marine cultivation zone, housing more than 65 major companies − seven of which rank among China’s top 500 enterprises − with the region’s industrial revenue totaling approximately 23 trillion yuan (US$3.2 trillion).
This Sister City initiative symbolizes a new chapter of global partnership between regional governments, underlining shared ambitions for inclusive and sustainable development.
