Indonesia is doubling down on its commitment to global peace and stability through defense diplomacy, with the return of the Indo Defence 2025 Expo & Forum, one of Southeast Asia’s largest international defense exhibitions, scheduled to be held at JIExpo Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, on June 11-14, 2025.

Deputy Minister of Defense, Donny Ermawan Taufanto, emphasized that the event, themed “Defence Partnership for Global Peace and Stability,” is more than a showcase of military hardware. It is also a diplomatic platform designed to foster international cooperation and stability.

“Our goal is peace and stability. This aligns with the fourth paragraph of the Preamble to the 1945 Constitution, which calls for Indonesia to actively participate in establishing world peace,” Donny told a media conference at the Defense Ministry headquarters on Wednesday, June 4, 2025.

The 2025 edition of Indo Defence marks a significant return after its postponement in November 2024 due to the government’s transitional period. This year’s event is set to host 1,180 defense firms from 55 countries, including major global players such as the United States and Turkey, reflecting Indonesia’s growing prominence in international defense networks.

Donny noted that defense exhibitions, such as Indo Defence, do more than just enable arms procurement asthey serve as avenues for multi-track diplomacy involving governments, industries, and even media.

He argued that stronger defense partnerships foster more stable regions, which are essential for long-term economic development.

“It’s nonsense to talk about prosperity or economic progress if peace and stability aren’t present,” Donny said. “Stability is the foundation for national and regional development.”

Domestic defense industry

In addition to geopolitical cooperation, the forum is expected to serve as a growth catalyst for Indonesia’s domestic defense industry. Donny expressed optimism that local manufacturers will use the event to collaborate with foreign counterparts, enhancing the quality and marketability of Indonesian-made defense systems.

“This exhibition offers fresh air for the domestic defense sector. Through collaboration, we can produce more competitive products and expand our market reach,” he said.

Exposure

As part of Indonesia’s broader foreign policy, which emphasizes active contributions to global peace, the Indo Defence event stands as a symbol of Jakarta’s balanced approach, engaging in military diplomacy while advocating for peace.

The forum will feature exhibitions, bilateral meetings, and business-to-business sessions aimed at securing new defense deals, partnerships, and technology transfers.

Donny expressed hope that Indo Defence 2025 will run smoothly and generate tangible benefits for Indonesia and the global community.

“The success of this event reinforces our role not just as a buyer, but also as a builder of international security and peace,” he concluded.
