Environment Ministry-Police strengthen collaboration on environmental protection
The Ministry of Environment (KLH) and the National Police (Polri) on Wednesday, May 28, 2025 signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on strengthened environmental law enforcement, underscoring both institutions’ commitment to preserving Indonesia’s natural resources and ensuring sustainable development.
“Environmental management must continuously be improved to ensure that our development toward Indonesia Emas 2045 is fully supported by a sustainable environment,” Minister of Environment and Head of the Environmental Control Agency, Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, said as quoted by Antara in Jakarta, on Wednesday.
He highlighted that collaboration between the Environment Ministry and the police has been ongoing for years. The MoU reaffirms and strengthens this cooperation, which encompasses not only enforcement but also preventive measures and corrective actions to avoid further environmental degradation.
“We hope to follow up on this MoU with technical activities in accordance with the scope of the agreement we have just shared,” he said.
On the same occasion, Chief of the National Police, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, outlined that the cooperation will address a range of issues including pollution control − air pollution, hazardous and toxic substances (B3), and waste management.
“This requires a combination of approaches, from public education and awareness campaigns to more concrete actions to ensure compliance,” the police chief said on Wednesday, May 28, 2025. “At the same time, these activities should contribute positively to the country.”
He also affirmed the police’s commitment to support the government's initiative to convert waste into electricity, a key strategy in Indonesia’s sustainable waste management plan. Polri, he added, remains fully dedicated to monitoring and taking action on environmental pollution, damage, and violations that threaten both ecosystems and public well-being.
