Solar energy developer SUN Energy has announced a milestone in its growth trajectory, with its installed capacity doubling to 100 megawatts (MW) in 2025, just two years after reaching its first 50 MW.

Chief of Sales at SUN Energy, Oky Gunawan, shared the company's journey since its entry into the Indonesian market in 2016, highlighting its steady climb from zero to 50 MW by 2022, and a significant acceleration thereafter.

“From 2016 to 2022, we reached 50 MW. Then in just two years, we doubled that to 100 MW,” Oky Gunawan said during a panel session at PLN Startup Day 2025, held at PLN Headquarters in Jakarta, on Wednesday, May 21, 2025.

“This marks a turning point, what took us six years to achieve initially, we now achieve in a fraction of the time, thanks to a proven system and increased investor confidence,” he added.

Gunawan attributed the initial traction to foreign investors, who had greater awareness of solar energy potential. However, over time, SUN Energy developed a concept that has increasingly drawn interest from domestic banks and financial institutions.

“At the beginning, we had to convince customers and educate them. Our lead management system tracks the journey from unawareness to actual conversion,” he said. “From 100 potential customers, 50 have signed letters of intent. This data is measurable, and it reassures banks that risks are manageable.”

Gunawan emphasized that the company’s success lies not just in potential,” the sun will always rise," Gunawan cited, but in the ability to convert that potential into measurable and bankable results. This has triggered a snowball effect, as proven performance attracts more institutional support.

SUN Energy’s achievements come amid growing national and global attention on energy transition, positioning the company as a key player in Indonesia’s shift toward sustainable power.

"Now the tables have turned. Local banks come to us, not the other way around. Once you can prove your concept, everyone will come. This is not just true in renewable energy, but in every business,” he concluded.
