Badak LNG, a subsidiary of State-owned energy company Pertamina Hulu Energi has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with INPEX Masela Ltd., a subsidiary of Japan-based INPEX Corporation, to explore strategic cooperation in the development of Indonesia’s LNG industry.

The agreement was formalized on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, during the 49th IPA Convention & Exhibition 2025 held at ICE BSD City, Tangerang and outlines joint efforts in areas such as operation and maintenance, technical services, commissioning and start-up support, as well as human resource and training development.

The MoU was signed by Badak LNG President Director & CEO Achmad Khoiruddin and INPEX Masela President Director Kenji Hasegawa. INPEX Masela currently operates the Masela Block, one of the largest gas development projects in Indonesia, while Badak LNG brings decades of expertise in LNG plant operations, technical support, and professional training, particularly in natural gas processing.

“This MoU represents a significant step in fostering collaboration between national and international energy companies,” Khoiruddin said.

“We welcome this partnership as a means to support Indonesia’s LNG development and facilitate knowledge exchange that will mutually benefit both parties,” he added.

The partnership will cover a range of project development activities, including operational readiness and safety assessments, development of operation and maintenance models, and technical support for commissioning and early gas flow stages. It also places a strong emphasis on training and workforce capacity building in the LNG sector.

Both companies affirmed their commitment to implementing the cooperation under principles of good corporate governance and contributing positively to Indonesia’s natural gas sector development.

Khoiruddin added that the cooperation could pave the way for a long-term synergy that supports not only the two companies but also the nation’s energy infrastructure. “We hope this collaboration enhances project readiness in the Masela Block and strengthens competency development across the LNG industry,” he said.

Meanwhile, Hasegawa expressed appreciation for the opportunity to work with Badak LNG. “We believe this partnership can continue to grow and significantly contribute to regional capacity building in LNG project management,” he said.
