Oil and gas company PT Energi Mega Persada (EMP) has announced a significant oil discovery from its Bentu Production Sharing Contract (PSC) block in Riau, Sumatra, revealing an estimated 20 million barrels of oil in place from its Central East Napuh Deep South (CEN) field.

The discovery was made through the Central East Napuh 02 Deep well (CEN-02), which was fully drilled in April 2025 to a depth of 4,647 feet. The well revealed two sandstone reservoir layers within the Lakat Formation, totaling 43 feet in thickness.

EMP Director Tri Firmanto said that the new discovery could contribute between 1,500 and 2,500 barrels of oil per day through the implementation of 11 development wells.

The Bentu PSC block, primarily a gas asset, holds gas reserves and contingent resources (2P + 2C) totaling 375.6 billion cubic feet as of January 1, 2025, with a targeted daily production of 93 million cubic feet of gas this year.

EMP Vice President Director, Edoardus Ardianto, credited the success to collaboration between EMP, the Indonesian government through the Upstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Task Force (SKK Migas), and local stakeholders.

“We will continue to conduct exploration and development activities to increase the reserves and output of the Bentu PSC asset,” he said as quoted in a statement on Wednesday, May 14, 2025.

Meanwhile, EMP President Director, Syailendra S. Bakrie, noted that the oil discovery follows a previous gas find in the nearby CEN-01 well, which revealed about 126 billion cubic feet of gas in place.

He emphasized EMP’s commitment to boosting national energy output and supporting Indonesia’s drive for energy self-sufficiency.
