Cisem II gas pipeline project ahead of schedule, 64 percent completed
The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has announced that the physical construction of the Cirebon-Semarang Phase II (Cisem II) natural gas pipeline project has reached 64.3 percent completion as of April 2025 − exceeding the planned target of 62.8 percent.
Spanning the Batang–Kandang Haur Timur section, this segment is part of a strategic national project valued at Rp2.8 trillion (US$169 million), funded by the State Budget (APBN). The project is being implemented under a design and build integrated construction scheme, selected to meet both the urgency and complexity of the development.
“By April 30, 2025, physical progress has reached 64.3 percent, which is 1.5 percent ahead of the target,” Acting Director General of Oil and Gas at the ESDM Ministry, Tri Winarno, said as quoted in a press statement on Monday, May 12, 2025.
Connecting Java’s gas infrastructure
Cisem II stretches 245 kilometers and serves as a continuation of the Cisem I project, which began supplying gas to the Kendal Industrial Estate in Central Java in November 2023. The government remains committed to accelerating construction to ensure on-time completion.
“The project is scheduled for completion in April 2026. Once finished, the natural gas pipeline network across Java will be fully connected from East Java to West Java,” Tri said.
The project is expected to benefit several key users, including the Balongan Refinery, industrial sectors in West Java, household gas networks, and additional demand from State fertilizer producer Pupuk Kujang. Cisem II will complement the previously completed 60-kilometer Cisem I pipeline, which began operations in July 2024 to supply gas to the Batang Industrial Estate.
Tri also noted that the Cisem II project is now in its peak construction phase, employing 1,614 workers. It has recorded 1.49 million safe working hours and achieved a Domestic Component Level (TKDN) of 62 percent, reflecting the government’s commitment to supporting national industry.
With its steady progress and strategic value, the Cisem II pipeline is set to play a crucial role in enhancing energy infrastructure and supporting industrial growth across Java.
