Palestine allows temporary evacuation of 1,000 Gazans for medical treatment, recovery
Jakarta claims to have secured the green light from the Palestinian Government regarding President Prabowo Subianto's proposal to evacuate 1,000 Gaza Strip residents to Indonesia.
Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi said the government had received response from the Palestinian Authorities about Indonesia’s proposal, but he could not provide further information regarding details of the settlement area for the Palestinian evacuees in Indonesia.
“The settlement area for Gaza residents would be adjusted to the readiness of infrastructure, such as health facilities, housing and available medical equipment. The government will certainly choose fully equipped places to help rehabilitate our brothers and sisters from Gaza as quickly as possible," Prasetyo said on Monday, April 21, 2025.
He said further that the government through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs continues to communicate with related parties to ensure that the evacuation of Palestinians to Indonesia will run smoothly.
"Technically, evacuating the Paletinians to Indonesia is not easy. Therefore, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs continues to coordinate," Prasetyo said.
President Prabowo had proposed on the evacuation plan of 1,000 Palestinian victims of the armed conflict in the Gaza Strip to Indonesia. The Indonesian government has also prepared a number of aircrafts to pick up the Palestinians in the initial stage.
Prabowo also said that the government does not provide permanent asylum for Palestinian victims of the armed conflict in the Gaza Strip.
“These Palestinians will only be accommodated temporarily in Indonesia. As they recover and are healthy again, and whenever the conditions in Gaza are favorable, they must return to their home areas," the President said.
