FM Sugiono discusses strengthened bilateral cooperation with Russian Ambassador
Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono met with Russian Ambassador Sergei G. Tolchenov in Jakarta on March 27, 2025, discussing efforts to strengthen bilateral relations.
The meeting focused on enhancing strategic cooperation between Indonesia and Russia, particularly in light of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
"Indonesia and Russia have maintained long-standing cooperation in various sectors, and we are committed to strengthening these ties strategically," Sugiono said as quoted in a statement on Thursday, March 27, 2025 .
He emphasized that both nations are exploring ways to elevate their bilateral relations toward a Strategic Partnership.
The discussion also covered expanding trade relations and partnerships in key sectors, particularly energy.
Sugiono highlighted previous high-level meetings with Russian officials, including the meeting between the Indonesian President and the Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation in February 2025.
Beyond bilateral ties, Indonesia's entry into BRICS in January 2025 marks a new chapter in its relations with Russia. This development is expected to further enhance economic and political collaboration between the two countries on a global scale.
