President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated the Industropolis Special Economic Zone (KEK) − a transformation of the Batang Integrated Industrial Zone (KITB) − in Batang, Central Java on Thursday, March 20, 2025.
Deputy for Protocol, Press and Media of the Presidential Secretariat, Yusuf Permana, said the government is targeting investment value in the Batang Industropolis Special Economic Zone to reach Rp75.8 trillion (US$45.6 billion) in the next five years.
The KEK will have a target number of workers absorbed at 58,145 people. Business activities carried out are in the fields of manufacturing, logistics and distribution. The industrial area is also targeted to accommodate 1,000 small and medium enterprises with an investment project value of Rp16 trillion.
"The change from KITB to KEK aims to encourage greater investment," Yusuf said on Wednesday, March 19, 2025.
Previously, KITB was regulated Presidential Regulation (Perpres) No. 106/2022 on Investment Acceleration through Integrated Batang Industrial Development.
Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Airlangga Hartarto, previously said that the planned working visit to Batang would be a follow-up to the results of the meeting between Prabowo and Chinese President Xi Jinping on November 9, 2024.
"There is also the Two Countries Twin Parks collaboration, a collaboration between Indonesia and China’s Fujian province to encourage industrial investment in Batang," Airlangga said on Tuesday, March 18, 2025.
