Indonesian Military (TNI) Chief General Agus Subiyanto endorsed ranks promotion of 41 high-ranking officers from the three TNI branches − Air Force, Army and Navy − on the same day the House of Representatives (DPR) ratified revision of Law No. 34/2004 on the TNI in a plenary session on Thursday, March 20, 2025.

TNI Chief of General Affairs Lieutenant General Richard Tampubolon, who represented the TNI chief in the event, emphasized that promotions are not only career achievements, but also mandates that must be accounted for.

"Rank is not just a career achievement, but also a great responsibility, both professionally as a soldier and as a human being before God," General Richard said while reading the TNI chief’s written statement in a ceremony held at TNI Headquarters in Cilangkap, East Jakarta.

The ranks promotion this time impacted high-ranking officers from the ranks of one-star general to three-star general.

They include Lieutenant General Novi Helmy Prasetya, Special Staff to the TNI Chief, who was recently assigned as President Director of the State Logistics Agency (Bulog); Lieutenant General Steverly Christmas Parengkuan, Chief Inspector at the State Intelligence Agency (BIN); and Vice Admiral Mohammad Syafii, Head of the National Border Management Agency (BNPP).

On that occasion, the TNI chief reminded that high-ranking officers must be the main drivers of the TNI organization and be able to face various challenges with innovative and applicable solutions.

"We need leaders who can create adaptive solutions to face the various challenges of the nation today," General Agus Subiyanto said.

Based on the TNI Chief's Order No. Sprin/526/III/2025 dated March 17, 2025, promotions were granted to 20 high-ranking officers from the Army, 14 from the Navy, and seven from the Air Force.

This promotion took place in the amidst of an important moment for the TNI, with the ratification of the revised TNI Law which will bring various changes to the structure and main tasks of the country's defense institution.

The revision of the TNI Law brings significant changes to the rules on the manadatory age of retirement for soldiers. Article 53 of the TNI Bill stipulates a retirement age that varies based on the soldiers’ ranks and positions.
