The Jakarta Environmental Agency has included 100 percent waste control system − 70 percent on waste management and 30 percent on waste reduction − as a priority program and performance target in 2026.

Head of the Jakarta Environmental Agency, Asep Kuswanto, said that efforts to achieve the target include strengthening community involvement in sorting and managing waste that is easily decomposed by nature using environmentally friendly methods.

"This includes increasing the circular economy through waste utilization, reducing plastic waste, and implementing independence in waste management in public areas and markets," Asep said on Wednesday, March 19, 2025.

He cited that the Jakarta Provincial Administration is optimizing the implementation of scheduled waste transportation to improve the function of Temporary Shelters (TPS) as integrated waste processing sites.

Other efforts include increasing waste processing capacity through Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF), maintaining and revitalizing waste processing support facilities in Bantar Gebang dump site and operating waste filters on the border of the Jakarta area.

"The Environmental Agency has performance target activities and production activities that are strengthening community involvement in waste selection," Asep said.

Chairman of Commission D of the Jakarta Provincial Legislative Council (DPRD), Yuke Yurike, encouraged the Jakarta Provincial Administration to increase the role of unit waste banks spread across the community association (RW) levels in Jakarta.

The role of waste banks is not only to reduce waste production, but also provide economic stimulus benefits for the community as various types of inorganic waste that are deposited can add to the community's rupiah income.

Yuke expressed hope that the Jakarta Environmental Agency will innovate technology and infrastructure from upstream to downstream for waste management in Jakarta. These innovations include accelerating the construction of the Waste Power Plant (PLTSa) and processing waste into alternative fuels or refused derived fuel (RDF).
