KPK names former Semarang mayor, husband corruption suspects

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on Wednesday, February 19, 2025 named Hevearita Gunaryanti Rahayu, then Mayor of Semarang, and her husband Alwin Basri, who was also a member of the Central Java Provincial Legislative Council (DPRD), as suspects in multiple corruption cases within the Semarang City Administration.

 

"Suspects Hevearita and her husband are detained at the Cipinang Prison in East Jakarta starting from February 19, 2025 to March 10, 2025," Ibnu Basuki Widodo, KPK deputy chairman, said as quoted by Antara, on Wednesday, February 19, 2025. 

 

According to Ibnu, Hevearita and her husband are suspected of receiving money from three cases:

●     Procurement of fabricated desks and chairs for Elementary Schools (SD) at the Semarang City Education Office in 2023;

●     Arrangement of direct appointment projects at the sub-district level in 2023;

●     Request for money to the Semarang City Regional Revenue Agency (Bapenda).

 

Ibnu cited that in the table and chair procurement project, both were suspected of receiving Rp1.7 billion (US$104,121) in bribes. In the project arrangement at the sub-district level, Alwin was suspected of receiving Rp2 billion. Meanwhile, for the case of requesting money to Bapenda, both were suspected of receiving Rp2 billion.
