MIND ID strengthens women empowerment in the mining industry
State-owned mining holding company, MIND ID, has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening women empowerment in the mining industry in line with the International Women’s Day celebration on March 8, 2025 and the Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs), launched by UN Women and the UN Global Compact to promote gender equality in the workplace.
MIND ID believes that empowering women is fundamental to ensuring sustainable corporate growth. The company has taken measures to increase women’s participation across its business value chain, from production processes to strategic decision-making roles.
MIND ID’s Corporate Secretary, Heri Yusuf, emphasized that the company is committed to creating a fair, inclusive, and productive work environment for all employees, free from discrimination.
“In celebrating International Women’s Day, MIND ID is reinforcing its commitment to women empowerment while fostering an equitable and inclusive workplace. This vision also aligns with President Prabowo Subianto’s Asta Cita agenda to strengthen women’s roles in Indonesia,” Heri said in a statement as quoted on Tuesday, March 11, 2025.
MIND ID has seen significant growth in female workforce participation. In 2022, the company employed 1,715 female employees, and by 2023, the number increased to 2,397. Within MIND ID’s core workforce, women accounted for 37 percent of the total 130 employees in 2023. This increase reflects the company’s progress in building gender diversity and strengthening overall business performance.
Innovation and workplace policies
MIND ID is set to evolve into a more technology-driven and safety-conscious mining company, allowing female workers to take on more prominent roles. The company has implemented various initiatives to support women’s well-being and career growth, including:
• Employee Wellbeing Program, designed to ensure work-life balance and mental health support.
• Respectful Workplace Policy, aimed at preventing harassment and discrimination in the workplace.
• Enhanced Safety and Occupational Health Standards (K3), ensuring that female employees can work safely in mining operations.
Heri said further that women empowerment positively impacts the entire mining industry, citing UN Women’s research that companies with at least three women in senior leadership consistently perform better.
Moreover, increasing gender equality at a national level could contribute an additional US$135 billion to Indonesia’s annual GDP, marking a 9 percent higher growth than the current national average.
Towards Golden Indonesia 2045
Looking ahead, MIND ID aims to continue its efforts in promoting gender diversity and inclusive leadership in the mining sector.
“We believe that women empowerment will create a greater positive impact on the mining industry and contribute to the realization of Indonesia Emas 2045,” Heri said.
