Govt prioritizes NCICD project for Northern Java coastal region’s flooding prevention

Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY)
Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), said the government would prioritize the National Capital Integrated Coastal Development (NCICD) project to protect the northern coast of Java from threats of tidal flooding and land subsidence.
"Bapak President [Prabowo Subianto] says, this is not just a project, but to save the survival of our people, especially those on the north coast, along the north coast of Java," Agus said on Wednesday, March 4, 2025.
He highlighted the complexity of the project, which covers some 30 regencies and cities in five provinces, namely Banten, Jakarta, West Java, Central Java and East Java. He cited coordination between the central and regional governments is a challenge in itself.
"We have to make sure, starting today, we work together, create a strategy, and not just rely on one party. This is a big, complex project, but if it is successful, Indonesia will not only be able to protect the people along the northern coast of Java, but also be able to realize the best project in the future in terms of size and scale," Agus said.
The NCICD project is currently the government's main concern, coordinating with various parties. The government is also committed to ensuring that this project runs according to plan, both in terms of technical aspects, financing, and its impact on society and the environment.
The government has established a special task force and planned an international infrastructure conference to push the project. This formation demonstrates the government's seriousness in the NCICD project as a long-term solution for coastal resilience.
In addition, this project is expected to not only be a symbol of infrastructure progress, but also a valuable legacy for Indonesia's future.
AHY also coordinates with the Ministry of Public Works to align project planning and implementation, strengthen synergy between related ministries and institutions, and ensure that development runs effectively by considering technical aspects, regulations and the needs of the affected community.
