Danantara prepares funding as government to execute 21 strategic projects
The government will soon execute 21 strategic projects on energy, agriculture, fisheries, and forestry sectors down streaming with an investment value of US$40 billion through funds to be provided by the Daya Anagata Nusantara Investment Management Agency (BPI Danantara).
This decision was taken in a closed Cabinet meeting led by President Prabowo Subianto at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Monday, March 3, 2025.
Head of the National Task Force for Accelerating Downstream Development and Energy Security, Bahlil Lahadalia, said that these projects aim to strengthen energy security and reduce the country’s dependence on imports of a number of products.
Some of the main projects that will be executed include:
1. Construction of Crude Oil Storage on Nipah Island. This project will be part of the national energy security strategy.
2. Construction of an Oil Refinery with a Capacity of 500,000 Barrels. This project is expected to be one of the largest oil refineries in Indonesia.
3. Dimethyl Ether (DME) Plant for Coal Gasification targeted as an alternative fuel to replace LPG. This project will be built in parallel in South Sumatra, East Kalimantan, and South Kalimantan.
4. Mineral Downstream Project in the form of Copper, Nickel, and Bauxite Processing for domestic alumina production.
5. Downstream Project in the Agriculture, Fisheries, and Forestry Sectors. To Support the increase in added value of domestic production.
Bahlil, who is also Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), emphasized that these projects no longer depend on foreign investment, but utilize domestic resources.
The government and national private sector will bear the investment costs (capex), while technology is expected to come from outside parties.
"This time, we do not depend on foreign investors. Money and raw materials from us, off-takers also from us. All we need is the technology," he said.
