State-owned bank PT Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI) signed a strategic cooperation with the state-owned infrastructure financing company PT Sarana Multi Infrastruktur (SMI) through a repurchase agreement (Repo) transaction worth Rp550 billion (US$33.6 million) on Tuesday, March 4, 2025.

This collaboration aims to strengthen the liquidity of corporate customers while supporting the financing of strategic infrastructure projects in Indonesia.

"This repo transaction provides benefits for both parties. For BNI, this transaction is one way to optimize fund placement. Meanwhile, for SMI, this transaction provides convenience in obtaining liquidity quickly and flexibly, so that it can support the financing of infrastructure projects that are currently underway," Ita Tetraslastwati, Senior Executive Vice President at BNI Treasury, said on Tuesday, March 4, 2025.

Established in 2009, PT Sarana Multi Infrastruktur (Persero) is an Indonesian state-owned enterprise focused on infrastructure financing. By the end of 2020, the company had financed 289 projects with a total value of Rp699.18 trillion.

Through this transaction, BNI provides funds to SMI with collateral in the form of securities so that SMI can obtain short-term funding more efficiently.

The signing of the cooperation was carried out by Ita Tetraslastwati and Director of Operations and Finance at SMI, Aradita Priyanti.

Aradita said that the cooperation between BNI and SMI is in line with the government's efforts to encourage infrastructure development in Indonesia. It is hoped that this transaction will be an effective instrument in supporting the acceleration of infrastructure development.

"With the support from BNI, SMI can be more flexible in carrying out its role as a catalyst for infrastructure financing," she said.

The collaboration between BNI and SMI is a commitment to continue strengthening cooperation and developing various other innovative financing initiatives. It is expected to provide more contributions to economic growth and sustainable development in Indonesia.
