The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) is preparing to hold a series of  activities aimed at strengthening the green energy investment ecosystem in Indonesia.

"We will conduct a roadshow to conduct market sounding and business matching with technology providers and international developers. In April or May, we will conduct partner matching with leading technology providers," Anthony Utomo, Chair of the Kadin Energy Transition Working Group, said as quoted by Katadata, on Friday, February 28, 2025.

There are three main aspects that are the focus of this roadshow. First are efforts to increase demand for green energy. Second is technology and supply chain collaboration. Third are efforts to invite more developers in the green energy sector to enter Indonesia.

"Talking about green energy if no one uses it for what? So there must be demand, such as data centers and factories producing green products that can later absorb new power plants that will be built," he said.

He emphasized the importance of the availability of technology and supply chains that can later invest and partner with business actors in Indonesia.

He also cited the importance of encouraging more developers to come to Indonesia so they can get more competitive prices and more affordable financing sources.

Anthony said further that the peak of the series of initiatives is the implementation of the Green Energy Summit or Green Energy Investment Day, which is expected to be an arena for stakeholders to announce green energy projects that have a real impact on the Indonesian economy.

"Then there is the launch of projects that have a real impact on the Indonesian economy. That's roughly the work plan that we can do," Anthony said.

Earlier, Deputy Chairman for Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) at Kadin, Aryo Djojohadikusumo, spoke at the Indonesia Green Energy Investment Dialogue 2025 on Thursday, February 27, 2025 that during the upcoming Green Energy Investment Summit, Kadin will no longer have a dialogue but will pursue results from real work, for example, agreements in the business sector to realize a just energy transition.

Partnerships and diversification

Anthony said further that in an effort to find the best technology partners, Kadin identifies that several countries have specific advantages in the renewable energy industry.

"For example, Denmark and Germany are strong in the Wind Power Generation (PLTB) industry, then China dominates the Solar Power Generation (PLTS) industry," he cited.

Currently, Indonesia's dominant partner is China. However, Kadin is seeking partnerships with more countries so as not to depend on one only.

Kadin also emphasized the importance of diversification to ensure that technology transfer runs optimally and is in line with Indonesia's strategic interests on the global stage.

"That's why we also try to have technology provider partners from other countries so that our dependence and transfer of technology can run well without having to abandon the interests of relations at the global level," Anthony said.

Previously, Kadin signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Defense University (Unhan), which focused on strengthening aspects of national energy security and building human resource capacity in the field of green energy.

Through academic support and strategic research from Unhan, Kadin hopes to strengthen the policy foundation and implementation of sustainable energy transition.

Through collaboration with Unhan and global technology partners, Kadin is optimistic that Indonesia can achieve a stronger and more sustainable green energy ecosystem.
