French Navy’s aircraft carrier, Charles de Gaulle (R91), arrived in Indonesian waters of West Nusa Tenggara and docked at Gili Mas Port, Lembar, West Lombok on Tuesday, January 28, 2025.

Commanded by Captain Georges-Antoine Florentin, the aircraft carrier also had French Naval Task Group Commander Rear Admiral Jacques Mallard on board. The ship arrival was welcomed by Commander of the Mataram Naval Base Colonel Waluyo and his staff.

The presence of the French aircraft carrier carrying 1,780 crew members is part of a routine visit by the French Navy, which aims at strengthening defense cooperation between France and Indonesia.

The Charles de Gaulle is one of the largest and most modern warships in the world, with a length of 262 meters and equipped with various sophisticated weapons and a number of fighter planes.

In his remarks, Colonel Waluyo appreciated the visit by the French aircraft carrier and expressed hope that this visit will further strengthen diplomatic relations and maritime cooperation between the two countries.

"We hope that during this visit, you will not only enjoy the natural beauty of West Nusa Tenggara, but also feel the friendliness of our people. Hopefully this moment can strengthen the friendly relations between the French and Indonesian Navies," Waluyo said.
