The Presidential Palace supports the measures taken by the Attorney General's Office (AGO) to clean up corrupt practices in the state-owned energy company PT Pertamina, in regards with the current investigation into alleged mismanagement of crude oil and refinery products within the Pertamina Group.

Hasan Nasbi, Head of the Presidential Communications Office, said that the law enforcement measures taken by the Attorney General's Office were part of President Prabowo Subianto's call to combat corrupt practices.

He emphasized that the cleanup practice could have a positive impact on the country and society because Pertamina is an important asset for Indonesia.

"We must support this so that what emerges is a Pertamina that is much better, more prudent, accountable and much more transparent and can be held accountable in its governance," Hasan said on Thursday, February 27, 2025.

He hopes that the incident that ensnared Pertamina Patra Niaga, Pertamina’s commercial and trading subholding, can be a trigger for improving corporate governance in general. In addition, improving governance must also occur in all state institutions and other state-owned enterprises (SOEs).

"So this is a joint measure, of course there might be surprises, there will be shock when, for example, the cleanup process initiated by President Prabowo is carried out," Hasan noted.

He asked state institutions and SOEs to follow the President's direction in implementing responsible and corruption-free governance. This aims to ensure that the benefits of SOEs can be felt more widely by the people, and the profits obtained can be more optimal for the country.

"If then everyone can follow the measuress that the president wants, namely running institutions and companies in a responsible manner, free from corruption, then I think these surprises will not last long. So it will reach a new equilibrium soon," Hasan concluded.
