Chinese state-owned automobile manufacturer headquartered in Guangzhou, Guangdong, GAC International, has reaffirmed its commitment to expanding in Indonesia, recognizing the country’s strategic role in the Southeast Asian automotive market.

Top executives from GAC International − Yu Jun, Vice President of GAC Group; Wei Haigang, President of GAC International; and Wang Shunsheng, Vice President of GAC International − visited the AION (Electric vehicle subsidiary of GAC Group) booth at the Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) 2025, which ended on Sunday, February 23, 2025, to support the brand’s expansion in Indonesia.

"Indonesia has tremendous potential for the growth of the automotive industry, particularly in electric vehicle adoption. We see great opportunities to expand GAC Group’s presence and introduce high-quality EV innovations to Indonesian consumers," Wei Haigang said as quoted in a statement on Friday, February 21, 2025.

GAC International is set to introduce new models to the Indonesian market, including two models from AION, designed to meet local market demands. Beyond sales, the company is also committed to establishing local manufacturing facilities to strengthen Indonesia’s EV ecosystem. The long-term plan includes making Indonesia a manufacturing and export hub for Southeast Asia.

GAC International, the global expansion arm of GAC Group, plays a key role in bringing GAC’s brands to international markets, with Indonesia being a crucial part of this strategy. In addition to AION’s presence, the company plans to introduce other brands under GAC Group to cater to a wider consumer base. This initiative reflects GAC Group’s view of Indonesia as a vital market for its global expansion.

To support its long-term presence in Indonesia, Chinese State-owned automobile manufacturer GAC International − through AION Indonesia − has set up a partnership with Indomobil, covering both distribution and local manufacturing. As part of this initiative, AION’s factory in Cikampek, West Java, will soon begin production of the AION V, catering to the growing demand for EVs in Indonesia.

AION has consistently ranked first in JD Power China’s EV quality ratings and achieved sales milestones, surpassing 1 million units in just four years and eight months (from 2019 to December 2023). It also ranks as the third-best electric vehicle brand worldwide.
