Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas, Maruarar Sirait, is scheduled to visit plots of land in Bekasi, West Java, that have been confiscated under the Bank Indonesia Liquidity Support (BLBI) program which are planned to be used as sites for the contruction of the government’s 3 million housing program.
Based on data from the Ministry of Finance, the government has confiscated plots of land in Bekasi belonging to two entities involved in the BLBI corruption case, namely, the Indonesian Bank Restructuring Agency (IBRA) and PT Eraska Nofa.
The Ministry of Finance recorded that at least 241 plots of land with an area of 89 hectares (ha) were confiscated in the BLBI corruption case in Bekasi. Maruarar plans to visit the land with Rionald Silaban, Director General of State Assets at the Ministry of Finance, on Saturday, February 22, 2025.
"We will look at the land in Bekasi that was confiscated in the BLBI corruption case because it is state-owned land that is idle. This means that the land is ready for use," Maruarar said on Thursday, February 20, 2025.
The IBRA land in Cibening Village, Bekasi Regency is 60 hectares worth Rp150 billion (US$ 9.2 million). Meanwhile, the land belonging to PT Eraska Nofa is 29.08 ha (168 plots of land) located in Jatisampurna, Bekasi City, which were confiscated to settle state receivables worth Rp40.8 billion (US$ 8.62 million).
The former BLBI land in Bekasi City was confiscated by the Ministry of Finance in May 2023. The land has not had a definite plan for use by the government since it was confiscated until now, a report by Katadata.co.id reveals.
Several developers admitted to being pessimistic about the plan to use land confiscated from corruption cases as a location for the three million housing program.
However, Maruarar assessed that the government cannot force business actors to agree with the government.
"I am currently optimistic regarding the implementation of the three million homes program. Wait for the main date," he said.
Previously, Maruarar had found 1,000 ha of land in Banten confiscated by the Attorney General's Office. Maruarar then pushed for the transfer of corrupt lands, confiscated lands or undeveloped lands to be used as housing.
He plans to use land seized by banks from bad loans. He also invited the private sector to contribute in two ways, namely donating land or helping with construction in the three million homes program.
Maruarar explained that the provision of confiscated land could ultimately suppress the construction of houses in the program. The price of land contributes up to 40 percent to the cost of house construction.
He targeted to build 3.44 million new homes throughout next year. As many as 3 million units for people with incomes below Rp3.1 million per month, 340,000 units for people with incomes of Rp3.1 million to Rp8 million per month and 100,000 homes for people with incomes above Rp8 million.
