State power utility PT PLN, Upstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Task Force (SKK Migas), and the University of Dundee, Scotland have collaborated to drive the energy transition through a public discussion held at the PLN Auditorium in Jakarta on Monday, February 19, 2025.

PLN President Director, Darmawan Prasodjo, said that climate change is a global challenge that can only be overcome through cross-country cooperation, emphasizing the company’s plan to prioritize the use of renewable energy in the upcoming Electricity Supply Business Plan (RUPTL).

"This forum proves that the global community is now united. This gives confidence that we will continue to advance in the energy transition for the sustainability of future generations," Darmawan said.

He cited that PLN is determined to provide affordable and clean energy, while increasing national energy security through green investment, job creation, poverty alleviation, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Director General of Electricity at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Jisman P. Hutajulu, highlighted the importance of cooperation between the government, private sector, and academics in the energy transition efforts.

He hopes that this forum will produce concrete solutions to accelerate the energy transition through stronger collaboration between stakeholders.

Meanwhile, Head of SKK Migas, Djoko Siswanto, emphasized that the upstream oil and gas industry still has an important role in supporting national energy security. One of the strategic projects currently underway is the Carbon Capture Storage (CCS) bpTangguh UCC, which is expected to significantly reduce carbon emissions in the oil and gas sector.

British Ambassador to Indonesia, Dominic Jeremy, highlighted the cooperation between the UK and Indonesia in developing renewable energy and the importance of education in combating climate change.

He emphasized that the University of Dundee has a strategic role in energy transition research.

"Currently, Indonesia and the UK are working together on the energy transition with various stakeholders. This is in line with the commitment that has been agreed upon during President Prabowo Subianto's visit to the UK with our Prime Minister, where one of the main focuses is partnerships in the field of energy and environmental change," Jeremy said.

As part of its support for human resource development in the energy sector, the Ministry of Finance's Education Fund Management Institute (LPDP) has included the energy program at the University of Dundee in its priority list. This program allows Indonesian students to obtain Masters and PhD scholarships at the University of Dundee to support the energy transition in the country.
