The Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) is collaborating with the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources of the Republic of Türkiye to accelerate the development of clean energy in Indonesia.

This cooperation was marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the field of energy and mineral resources by Indonesian ESDM Minister Bahlil Lahadalia and Alparslan Bayraktar, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of the Republic of Türkiye.

"The cooperation between Indonesia and Türkiye includes cooperation on power generation, electricity distribution and transmission, development of New Renewable Energy (EBT), development of hydrocarbons, and new technologies including hydrogen, nuclear, and batteries," Bahlil said on Thursday, February 13, 2025.

He said further that the cooperation between the two countries would open up opportunities for technology transfer and innovation in the energy sector, which would accelerate the development of clean energy in Indonesia.

"With the support and collaboration of international partners, we can pursue energy self-sufficiency in accordance with President Prabowo's direction," he cited.

Bahlil also said this cooperation will be valid for five years and can be extended for an additional five years with an agreement between the two countries.

Indonesia has collaborated with Turkish companies in the energy sector, especially oil and natural gas (migas) and geothermal.

On the other hand, State energy company PT Pertamina has established eight collaborations with several Turkish companies in geothermal and shipping projects.

Türkiye also invested in geothermal projects through PT Hitay Daya Energi (HDE) in Gunung Talang-Bukit Kili, Solok Regency, West Sumatra, with a development plan of 20 Megawatts (MW). Meanwhile, Hitay Energy Holding also runs four geothermal survey and exploration projects. To date, HDE has invested US$6.01 million (Rp260,8 billion), or around 22 percent of their exploration commitment.
