Former President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has revealed his political plans for the future, including the possibility of establishing a political party that is very open to everyone.

In an interview for Mata Najwa broadcast on Youtube, Jokowi cited the party would be like a publicly listed company and that the plan is still being finalized.

The country’s 7th president said further that the political party would later be owned by all its members, while suggesting that in the future, an ideal political party will have a format like that.

Currently, Jokowi is not associated with any political parties after he was dismissed by the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) on December 16, 2024. PDI-P fired him because he was considered to have violated the party’s code of ethics.

He was said to have violated party discipline because he did not support Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD as the pair of candidates supported by PDI-P in the 2024 Presidential Election. PDI-P even said that at the end of his leadership, Jokowi had abused his power.

Although there is no certainty regarding the creation of a new party, Jokowi's statement has raised speculation that he may have a new vision in the world of politics, including the concept of a more open and inclusive party.
