Indonesia-Geely Auto Group discuss EV, methanol-powered vehicle development

Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Rosan P. Roeslani meets with Geely Auto Group, an automotive giant in China discussing the development of the domestic electric industry.

Established in 1997, Geely Auto has been operating from China and has introduced its models in several countries, including Indonesia.

"We are also developing an integrated electric vehicle ecosystem starting from refinery, battery industry and battery recycling," Song Jun, Vice President of Geely Auto Group, said on Thursday, December 26, 2024.

Song Jun emphasized that Geely welcomes the invitation to help develop the Indonesian automotive industry ecosystem. Currently, Geely is developing methanol-powered vehicles. With Indonesia currently being the prime candidacy for methanol powered vehicles.

"Because Indonesia is the largest palm oil producer in the world and we know that methanol is one of the products from palm oil," Rosan said.

The management of Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) 2025 confirms that there are several new vehicle brands debuting in Indonesia. Largely, electric vehicle (EV) manufacturers.

IIMS is a vehicle motor exhibition which will start on February 13-23, 2025 in JIExpo Kemayoran, Central Jakarta.

Geely, on the other hand, is ready to re-enter the Indonesian automotive market. The Chinese manufacturer will use the automotive exhibition stage to introduce itself.

"In the first quarter (of 2025), we will introduce the Geely brand in Indonesia. As is known, in the first quarter of next year there will be an Auto Show," Yusuf Anshori, Brand Director of Geely Auto Indonesia, said on November 10, 2024.
