Minister of Forestry, Raja Juli Antoni, has vowed to set up transparent oil palm plantations management to resolve the problems of rampant opening of oil palm plantations in forest areas.
"I think the problem is data and data transparency," he said on Tuesday, October 22, 2024.
The Ministry of Forestry is determined to resolve the problem by referring to the report issued by the Development Finanace Comptroller (BPKP) in collaboration with the Oil Palm Task Force (Satgas Sawit).
"That is the basis on which we will start work on oil palm management, especially in forest areas," he said.
Based on data from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), there are 3,372,615 hectares of oil palm plantations that are already in Indonesia's forest areas.
As much as 47.8 percent or 1,497,421 hectares are limited production forests (HPT), 36 percent or 1,127,428 hectares are in conversion production forests (HPK), 16 percent or 501,572 hectares are permanent production forests (HP).
In addition, oil palm plantations are also located in protected forests covering 115,119 hectares or 3.68 percent and conversion forests covering 91,074 hectares or 2.91 percent.
