Rusdi Kirana, co-founder of Lion Air Group, has been appointed as Deputy Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) representing the National Awakening Party (PKB).

Following his inauguration, Rusdi announced that he would focus on his new role in the MPR and take a step back from managing Lion Air Group.

"I'm already 61 years old, and I've passed the business on to the second generation, so now I have time to focus here," he said on Thursday, October 3, 2024.

Rusdi emphasized that it's impossible to juggle both roles effectively.

"It’s not feasible to run an airline business while also serving in parliament. Both are highly demanding jobs," he said.

While Rusdi did not provide specific details on who would take over his responsibilities at Lion Air Group, he hinted at his son stepping into a leadership role, especially with regards to the company's potential IPO.

"Later, my son will handle that," he remarked.

Earlier, the leadership lineup for the 2024-2029 MPR term was announced, with Ahmad Muzani, Secretary General of the Gerindra Party, being appointed as Speaker of the MPR.
