Luhut welcomes Elon Musk's arrival in Bali
Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affaits and Investment, Luhut B. Pandjaitan, welcome CEO of SpaceX and Tesla Inc, Elon Musk, who arrived on Sunday, May 19, 2024, to attend the 10th World Water Forum and the launch of Starlink with Indonesian President at a health center in Denpasar, Bali.
"I had the opportunity to pick up Elon at the airport this morning and then discuss some of his agenda while here and of course some important collaborations," Luhut said.
One of the important collaborations is the inauguration of the Starlink internet service that is able to reach remote areas of Indonesia.
"The inauguration of the Starlink launch will be carried out by Elon and the [Indonesia] President today at one of the Puskesmas in Denpasar, Bali," he said.
This cooperation is a form of equalization in all provinces in Indonesia which will be integrated with health and education services. Thus, both services are expected to continue to improve. Luhut hopes that through the launch of Starlink, people in remote areas can enjoy access to information and fast internet networks similar to those living in big cities.
Starlink internet is a satellite internet service developed by SpaceX, a technology company owned by Elon Musk. Starlink uses a constellation of low-earth (LEO) satellites to provide high-speed internet access to various regions around the world, especially in remote areas.
The presence of this internet is especially to help Indonesian people who lack access to internet services. Starlink users will only need a small receiver known as a "dish" to connect to the satellite network, allowing Indonesians to enjoy a fast and reliable internet connection.
