President Joko ”Jokowi” Widodo held a limited meeting together with Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Pandjaitan to discuss preparations for the 10th World Water Forum (WWF) which will be held on May 18-25, 2024 in Bali.

Luhut as Chair of the 10th WWF National Organizing Committee said that the committee had carried out final stage preparations to make the event a success.

He said the forum is an important meeting for global leaders and water experts which he hoped would be a productive event to discuss water sustainability issues throughout the world.

Luhut expressed high optimism regarding the implementation of the forum which will be attended by 14 heads of state and around 50,000 participants.

"There are 14 heads of state and 50,000 [participants] who will attend and Mr. Sandiaga Uno [Tourism and Creative Economy Minister] is smiling because all his hotels are gone," Luhut said.

The 2024 World Water Forum (WWF) in Bali is not only expected to be a platform that produces innovative solutions to global water problems, but also as a real example of Indonesia's success in hosting a large-scale international event.

The limited cabinet meeting was also attended by Minister of Public Works and Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono and Minister Sandiaga Uno.

The Indonesian Military (TNI) will deploy a total of 12,000 combined personnel from the Army, the Air Force and the Navy to secure the event. TNI personnel will begin providing security at the location one week before the event took place.

"We are deploying warships off the Bali Strait and the Lombok Strait. TNI will also provide several aircraft for evacuation purpposes in anticipation of natural disaster, such as eruption of Mount Agung,” TNI Spokesman Major General Nugraha Gumilar said on Monday, April 29, 2024.

The 10th World Water Forum carries the theme "Water for Shared Prosperity" and will discuss several sub-themes, namely water security and prosperity, water for humans and nature, disaster risk reduction and management, governance, cooperation and water diplomacy, and water financing sustainability.
