Observers urge investigation into alleged irregularities in vote counting
A legal election from the University of Indonesia, Titi Anggraini, has urged the General Elections Commission (KPU) and the Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) to seriously investigate allegations of the shifting of invalid votes into the vote count of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI).
Titi points out that the discovery of the alleged vote shifting at several polling stations is a highly suspicious and illogical anomaly.
According to her, it does not merely reflect a technological problem with the official integrated vote-counting and tabulating app, Sirekap, which has often misread characters when converting the scan results (C.Results) into numbers.
"The shift of invalid votes into a party's votes is likely not just a technological issue; there could be the involvement of certain parties," Titi said on Monday, March 4, 2024.
Therefore, Titi insists that the KPU and Bawaslu take the findings seriously and thoroughly investigate the causes of the shift that occurred in Sirekap.
"If the displayed data turns out to be anomalous and there are no objecting witnesses or supervisors, the anomaly can continue and develop into a vote inflation," she explained.
"If this happens, it is already a crime that manipulates voter voices and falls under the category of election crimes," added Titi.
Titi acknowledges that the Sirekap display is not an official result. Therefore, to ensure whether there is vote inflation or not, the anomalous data at the polling stations found by the public must be cross-checked with the District Result (D.Result) documents produced from the recap process at the district level.
"Check if the anomalies still exist. If they do, it can be confirmed that there has been inflation," she added.
Titi also reminds the public to continue monitoring Sirekap data and urges the KPU to immediately upload 100 percent of all scan results (C.Results) as well as district-level scan results, the implementation of which was completed on March 2, 2024.
Previously, Executive Director of Imparsial, Gufron Mabruri, revealed that the surge in votes for the PSI in the past few days was inexplicable.
The party led by the youngest son of President Joko Widodo, Kaesang Pangarep, gained almost 400,000 votes very quickly.
Chairman of the Advisory Council of the United Development Party (PPP), M. Romahurmuziy, claimed to have heard about a modus operandi of transferring vote results from several political parties to the PSI.
The syphoning off of the votes is taken from political parties that have secured votes far below the parliamentary threshold of 4 percent.
"Recently, after the vote, we received information about an effort to elevate PSI by transferring votes from parties that are far below the parliamentary threshold," said Romahurmuziy, on March 4, 2024.
He also claimed to have information that there is a modus operandi of shifting invalid votes to PSI, as if casting votes for the PSI symbol.
"Reports from PPP cadres in Bandung Regency, Banjaran District, Banjaran Wetan Village, Polling Station 024. PSI votes were inflated, from 1 vote to 21 votes, and there are many similar reports to the National Tabulation Center of the PPP," said Romy.
Earlier, the public was startled by the significant increase in PSI votes based on the KPU's real count data. The party obtained 2,404,199 votes or reaching 3.13 percent as of 6.07 AM on March 4, 2024. However, according to quick count data from several survey institutions, PSI's vote count did not eben reach 3 percent.
