KPK and TNI conduct joint investigation into alleged corruption in Basarnas
The Chief of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), Firli Bahuri, and the Commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), Admiral Yudo Margono, have agreed to conduct a joint investigation to resolve the alleged bribery case involving Vice Air Marshal Henri Alfiandi.
Henri is the Head of the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) and has been named as a suspect in the alleged bribery case related to the procurement of goods for Basarnas.
The handling of Henri's case has drawn attention because the corruption allegations involve both civilians and the military.
The spokesperson for Law Enforcement and Institutional Affairs at the KPK, Ali Fikri, stated that through this collaborative effort between the KPK and the Military Police Center (Puspom) of the TNI, the case can be resolved according to their respective authorities.
When asked about the joint investigation team, Ali only mentioned that the team was a collaboration and did not provide further details.
He stated that the technical aspects of handling the case collaboratively could be discussed by the KPK and TNI in the future.
Sharing the same vision
Ali emphasized that the KPK and TNI share the same vision and mission in their efforts to combat corruption. Therefore, the KPK is expected to continue enhancing cooperation and synergy with the TNI.
Furthermore, Ali stated that Admiral Yudo Margono has committed not to protect any member of the TNI involved in corruption.
This commitment was one of the points agreed upon during the meeting between Chairman Firli Bahuri of the KPK and Admiral Yudo Margono at the latter's residence on Wednesday, August 2, 2023.
"Moving forward, if there are any individuals within the TNI involved in corruption, Admiral Yudo Margono is committed not to provide protection," Ali told reporters on Thursday, August 3, 2023.
According to Ali, in the future, if there are any TNI personnel involved in corruption, the TNI, through its Military Police Center (Puspom), will cooperate with the KPK to investigate the corruption case.
