Indonesian State energy company PT Pertamina took a significant step towards enhancing the country’s energy security by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Eni SpA in the Netherlands on Friday, April 19, 2024.

The collaboration aims to explore potential oil and gas exploration and production projects in several international blocks to support national energy resilience.

The MOU signing ceremony, held in Amsterdam, saw the participation of key representatives from both Pertamina and ENI. Salyadi Dariah Saputra, Director of Strategy, Portfolio, and Business Development at PT Pertamina, and Luca Vignati, Upstream Director of Eni, inked the agreement.

Witnessing the signing were Kartika Wirjoatmodjo, Deputy Minister of State-Owned Enterprises; Nicke Widyawati, President Director of PT Pertamina; and Jaffee Arizon Suardin, President Director of PT Pertamina Internasional EP.

Nicke Widyawati emphasized that the MOU would strengthen the synergy between Pertamina and Eni, both in Indonesia and potential cooperation in foreign blocks, such as Africa and the Middle East.

Eni’s success in exploration and its recognition of Indonesia as a key focus in its international business portfolio make this partnership significant.

Salyadi Dariah Saputra highlighted that this collaboration would provide opportunities for Pertamina to play a role in managing oil and gas resources at the international level.

Strengthening ties with Eni is expected to enhance Pertamina’s capabilities in increasing reserves and oil production, both domestically and internationally, thus bolstering national energy security.

Fadjar Djoko Santoso, Vice President of Corporate Communication at Pertamina, expressed the company’s desire to reinforce its operations abroad as part of its efforts to increase oil production.

This move aligns with Pertamina’s aspiration to become a global energy company while utilizing the production to meet domestic needs.

The event also saw the presence of other key figures, including Bagus Agung Rahadiansyah, Senior Vice President of Corporate Finance at Pertamina; Brahmantya Satyamurti Poerwadi, Corporate Secretary of Pertamina; Aldo Napolitano, Exploration Director at Eni SpA; and Federico Maria Grati, Head of Agri Feedstock at Eni Natural Resources, Eni SpA.
