The Ministry of Public Works and Housing (PUPR) is gearing up to conduct a trial of railless train, or automated rail transit (ART), construction in the upcoming days at the Nusantara Capital City (IKN).

Chair of the Infrastructure Development Task Force for IKN, Danis H. Sumadilaga, stated that the ART construction in IKN would be carried out under the coordination of the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub).

“The Ministry of Transportation plans to name it ART. This train doesn’t require a driver, and its track isn’t physically rails but magnets or sensors. We are requested to accompany the Ministry of Transportation as the rail service will pass through the roads we are preparing,” Danis said on Friday, April 19, 2024.

He revealed that the trial for railless train construction would commence shortly. The trial is planned to take place in the Western National Axis of IKN. The trial process will cover a route of 4 to 5 kilometers.

“The road in the Western National Axis is nearly completed, about 90 percent done,” he said.

Minister of Transportation, Budi Karya Sumadi, during his visit to China in January 2024, met with his Chinese counterpart Li Xiaopeng, discussing cooperation in the development of mass transportation in IKN. Besides meeting with the Minister Li, Budi also met with several leaders of the China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation (CRRC) to discuss the continuation of cooperation in the development of the Automated Rail Transit (ART) for IKN.
