GAC Aion, a Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer, has announced its plan to open a new manufacturing facility in Cikampek, West Java, by the first quarter of 2025, aimed at expanding the company’s presence in the Southeast Asian electric vehicle market.

This announcement follows the initial shipment of 500 electric vehicles to Indonesia, signaling the company’s commitment to the region.

According to Major Qin, Vice President of Aion Indonesia, the company has been producing a variety of electric vehicles, including the Aion Y Plus, Aion ES, and HYPTEC HT models.

He emphasized that ensuring timely delivery of these EVs is a testament to Aion’s commitment to meeting consumer expectations.

The Aion Y Plus, a highlight in Aion’s lineup, boasts the innovative “Magazine” battery technology and the exclusive Architecture Electric Platform (AEP), designed specifically for pure electric vehicles.

Andry Ciu, CEO of Aion Indonesia, said that the new factory would not only cater to domestic demand but also serve as an export hub for other markets.

This initiative aims to produce world-class EVs for Indonesia and other key ASEAN markets, while also creating job opportunities for the local community.

In addition to its upcoming Indonesian plant, GAC Aion has already begun operations at a manufacturing facility in Rayong, Thailand.

This plant is projected to produce up to 50,000 units annually, supporting Thailand’s ambition to become a major hub for electric vehicle manufacturing in Southeast Asia.

With Indonesia becoming the second country in the region to manufacture GAC Aion electric vehicles, the company is poised to strengthen its foothold in the rapidly growing Southeast Asian EV market.
