BYD Company Ltd., a leading Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, has announced plans to establish a state-of-the-art manufacturing hub in Subang Smartpolitan, Indonesia. The new facility, covering an area of over 108 hectares, will serve as BYD’s strategic base for producing electric vehicles and batteries to meet the growing demand in Southeast Asia.

The decision to invest in Subang Smartpolitan underscores BYD’s commitment to expanding its presence in the region and supporting Indonesia’s transition to clean energy transportation. The manufacturing hub will leverage BYD’s advanced EV technologies and production capabilities to cater to both domestic and export markets.

The establishment of BYD’s manufacturing hub in Subang Smartpolitan is expected to stimulate growth in the EV industry and create opportunities for local companies to participate in the global EV supply chain. The presence of BYD, along with other foreign investors’ interest in Indonesia’s EV industry, underscores the country’s potential as a hub for clean energy technologies.

The handover of land between Subang Smartpolitan and BYD is scheduled for August 2024, with construction operations set to commence gradually, aiming for operational readiness by January 2026. BYD’s choice of Subang Smartpolitan as its manufacturing base reflects the area’s strategic advantages and its potential to drive Indonesia’s automotive industry forward.

The establishment of BYD’s manufacturing hub is expected to generate employment opportunities, promote technology transfer, and contribute to the development of local supply chains. By investing in electric vehicle production, BYD aims to support Indonesia’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions and foster sustainable transportation solutions.

As the global demand for electric vehicles continues to rise, BYD’s presence in Subang Smartpolitan positions Indonesia as a key player in the EV market. The collaboration between BYD and local stakeholders is poised to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles and contribute to the country’s economic growth and environmental sustainability.
