Yuriy Ushakov, Russian Presidential Aide, said on Monday, December 23, 2024 that Indonesia and eight other countries officially have the status of BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) partner countries.
The nine countries Indonesia, Belarus, Bolivia, Kazakhstan, Cuba, Malaysia, Uganda, Uzbekistan and Thailand.
“The list of BRICS partner countries that was finally agreed upon includes Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Belarus, Bolivia, Cuba, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Uganda,” Mao Ning, Chinese Foreign Minister, said as quoted by Antara, on Wednesday, December 25, 2024.
Previously, in October 2024 Indonesia applied to become a member of BRICS after Foreign Minister Sugiono was inaugurated for the term of President Prabowo Subianto. Sugiono also attended the XVI BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia.
During the summit, Mao Ning said the leaders of BRICS have reached an important consensus on forming a partnership mechanism.
“After the summit, China actively cooperated with Russia, the BRICS chair this year, to implement the mechanism with other BRICS countries,” she said.
China, as a member of BRICS, is ready to work with BRICS member countries and other partner countries to follow the spirit of openness, inclusiveness and mutually beneficial cooperation.
Mao Ning said that the presence of partner countries in BRICS is expected to increase cooperation between member countries to a higher level.
“The BRICS mechanism has greater representation and BRICS sees its appeal and influence growing more prominent, becoming a major platform for promoting solidarity and cooperation among Southern countries,” Mao Ning said.
