Telkom’s subsidiary and Germany ‘s venture capital collaborate, invests in deep tech start ups

MDI Ventures, a venture capital owned by PT Telkom Indonesia Tbk. has established a strategic partnership with Antler Germany, an early-stage venture capital and global startup generator on April 19, 2023.

MDI Ventures and Antler Germany had signed a Memorandum of Understanding in Berlin as part of a series of Telkom’s activities in Hannover Messe 2023 . Hanover Messe 2023 is a global trade exhibition for technology industry, innovation and digitalization.

The strategic partnership between MD Ventures and Antler Germany is meant to explore global startup portfolio potential, especially deep-tech startup such as bio-tech, cybersecurity and climate tech for the Indonesian market.

 The cooperation between MDI Ventures and Antler Germany encourage deep-tech startup to strengthen the startup ecosystem in Indonesia.

Telkom Digital Business Director Fajrin Rasyid said that Telkom Indonesia has perceived the urgency to have a partnership with global venture capital in order to secure Telkom’s strategic focus in developing its digital business.

“Today, we determined clear measures to develop a strategic synergy between Telkom and Antler Germany, representing Indonesia as one of the representatives to have a bilateral partnership between Indonesia-Jerman,” said Fajrin on the sideline of the Hannover Messe 2023.

Fajrin emphasized that the partnership between Telkom and Antler Germany is a progressive move for Telkom to prove and maximize MDI Ventures position as a global venture capital company.  With the signing of the MoU, MDI Ventures hoped to create more co-investment with Antler Germany.

The co-investment will create a positive impact on Indonesian start-ups. “MDI Ventures and Antler Germany also want to create more strategic collaboration by utilizing expertise and global network of the two parties,“ Fajrin added.

Until 2022, MDI Ventures has 334 start ups under its networks in 11 countries, while Antler Germany has 20 start ups under its network. Antler Germany is part of Antler Global that has financed 660 startups in 80 countries ,including 12 start ups in Indonesia.

Chief Executive Officer of MDI Ventures Donald Wihardja said that through the partnership with Antler Germany, MDI Ventures will facilitate start ups investment potentials that can bring state of the art technology and can benefit the Indonesian market. “We [MDI Ventures] can also facilitate their growth and contribution to start ups ecosystem in Indonesia through DMI’s access to state owned enterprises,” Wihardja added.

The partnership between MDI Ventures and Antler Germany is inline with the Indonesian government efforts to become the key player in the technology and global innovation landscape. In an effort to achieve this goal, MDI Ventures will play important roles in managing investments for the companies that haven high potential to grow.
