Muslim-based Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) has officially nominated Anies Baswedan and Sohibul Iman as their candidates for governorship and deputy governorship of Jakarta, while seeking support from other political parties to increase their voters’ base and winning chances in the regional election.

PKS President Ahmad Syaikhu revealed that discussions have already commenced with Nasdem Party Chairman Surya Paloh.

“We have received positive signals for collaboration in the regional elections,” Syaikhu said while addressing the opening of the PKS Leadership School in Jakarta on Tuesday, June 25, 2024 as broadcast on PKS’s YouTube channel.

In addition to Nasdem, PKS plans to engage in talks with the National Awakening Party (PKB). Syaikhu saidd that he had also discussed Anies’s candidacy with PKB Chairman Muhaimin Iskandar, and hoped to unite both for the leadership of Jakarta.

Acknowledging that PKS cannot move forward alone due to a shortfall of four seats needed to nominate the gubernatorial pair, Syaikhu emphasized the importance of coalition-building.

“We cannot do this alone; we have 18 seats in the Jakarta Provincial Legislative Council (DPRD), while the requirement is 22,” he said.

Syaikhu has even coined the term “AMAN” to refer to the Anies-Sohibul Iman ticket. PKS’s Instagram account has already posted photos of the candidate pair under the slogan “Jakarta AMAN.”

“Bismillah, in the name of Allah SWT. In shaa Allah Jakarta AMAN!,” read the Instagram post from PKS on Tuesday, June 25, 2024.
