State energy company PT Pertamina signed four cooperation agreements with local and international companies and institutions on Thursday, September 6, 2024, aimed at supporting the government’s climate change action and energy transition commitment.

The signing of the agreements was part of the events held during the Indonesia International Sustainability Forum (IISF) 2024.

“This signing is a form of Pertamina’s commitment towards climate change. It is in accordance with the President’s statement that collaboration is the way to
face the challenges of climate change and energy transition,” Pertamina Vice President for Corporate Communication, Fadjar Djoko Santoso, in a statement on Friday, September 6, 2024.

Previously, President Joko Widodo emphasized the importance of collaboration in addressing climate change and carrying out the energy transition. The President invited all parties to join in these efforts and expressed hope that the IISF can be a meeting place for knowledge, experience, and resources to collaborate in facing global climate challenges.

The first cooperation agreement is the Joint Study Agreement (JSA) between Pertamina, Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE), and Korea Maritime-Ocean University Consortium (KMOUC).

Second is the synergy between Pertamina and State fertilizer company PT Pupuk Indonesia in joint study of carbon capture and storage (CCS)/carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) potential development.

Third is a JSA regarding Feasibility Study on Carbon Capture, Transportation and Storage with the Offshore ONWJ block as a carbon storage facility.

Fourth is a JSA on CCS and CEO Strategic Exchange agreement with POSCO.

“Pertamina fully supports the government’s efforts to realize Net Zero Emission through several study cooperation agreements in developing CCS/CCUS Technology, not only with foreign companies, but also in synergy among State-owned engterprises,” Fadjar said.

Pertamina has expressed its commitment to support the Net Zero Emission 2060 target by continuing to encourage programs that have direct impact on the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. All efforts are in line with the implementation of Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) in all lines of Pertamina’s business and operations.
