Secretary General of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), Hasto Kristiyanto, has expressed confidence that the party’s candidate pair Pramono Anung-Rano Karno could win the Jakarta Gubernatorial Election in one round.

He cited that one of the factors of his confidence is related to the endorsement from the country’s 7th President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo for the rival Ridwan Kamil-Suswono pair.

Hasto revealed that PDI-P had initially prepared a strategy for a runoff election in the Jakarta Gubernatorial Election. However, upon viewing the public’s response, he believed that the Jakarta election would only be held in one round.

“Prior to pak Jokowi’s endorsement [on Ridwan Kamil-Suswono, we had prepared for a two-round election, but when pak Jokowi endorsed and received a negative public reaction, this could be one round,” he said on Wednesday, November 20, 2024.

He praised Pramono-Rano’s attitude in responding to Jokowi’s move in a relaxed manner. According to him, Pramono showed a mature attitude because he took Jokowi’s support for Ridwan Kamil lightly.

“This is a positive value that with the attitude ofpak Pramono Anung and Rano Karno regarding pak Jokowi’s endorsement of pak Ridwan Kamil,” he said.

So far, Jokowi has attended two events that featured Ridwan Kamil. Jokowi has openly stated his support for the former Governor of West Java.
