Transportation and logistic company PT Mitra Investindo (MITI) through its subsidiary, PT Kendawangan Berkah Kersik (KBK), has secured a Mining Business Permit (IUP) Exploration Phase for non-metallic minerals, silica sand and quartz sand.
The IUP on Exploration Phase was issued on Friday, January 24, 2025 by the Investment and One-Stop Integrated Services Agency (DPMPTSP) of West Kalimantan Province for an area of 2,042.03 hectares (ha) which is located in Kendawangan Subdistrict, Ketapang Regency.
Andreas Tjahjadi, President Director of MITI cited that this IUP is needed to support downstream on quartz sand or silica sand in Indonesia for solar panel production.
This permit was obtained through PT Nusantara Bina Silika, another subsidiary of MITI which oversees KBK in the exploration of quartz sand.
Furthermore, in order to secure business permits (IUP) on Production Operation, the company during IUP Exploration Phase will conduct general investigation, exploration and feasibility study in the area.
“IUP exploration that we received through KBK for an area of more than 2,000 ha, marks the beginning for our journey in the silica sand mining sector other than total logistics industry that has been part of our portfolio for decades. MITI is committed to supporting the government’s work in silica downstream to support the domestic photovoltaic (PV) industry module and semiconductors,” Andreas said on Thursday, January 30, 2025.
Silica sand or quartz sand has the mineral composition of SiO2 which is the main material in the production of solar panels.
